Whirlpool is by far the largest appliance maker ( up to 60% larger than no.2 ) in the world and is very well positioned with its energy saving appliances to benefit from worldwide 'green' policies and government subsidies. It has a global, geographical diversified business and it has shown excellent business results over many years. Its dividend ( almost 3%) are steady and appealing. It has an excellent management and its business practices are continuously rewarded by outside agencies. No risk, steady returns.

Down from $ 91 and change, this is still a great value play banking on the slow but steady recovery thesis. Limited downside, a good divend while you wait.

As the recession fades and consumer fear subsides, they will again start buying big items including large appliances, and Whirlpool is one of the best when it comes to large appliances.

Besides the name Whirlpool they are the owners of most of the common names and prefered names within the kitchen in the United States and the EU. They are also makers of more than just kitchen dream items they have a full line of products to make your personal garage into the perfect workshop for those who like to tinker or those who like to get very serious with their work, this includes floor materials to hanging stuff neatly and properly on the walls. Lets not forget that hot blistery day when you just want to cool off after a hard day in the lawn they make a line of airconditioning equipment. Even Motley Fool didnt list all the companies they own here in the US and the EU nor did they list what they do outside of the kitchen and laundry but i will say they do make the best a most innovative equipment in the world. With all the good they produce their is the negitive and right now the have a terrible upper management that needs to be replaced with people that know how to function during hard times and not hide behind a strong economy even a child could have made Whirlpool look financially great the past five years but now that its time to get the nose to the grinding wheel their top level managers have been a disappointment. Once things are fixed in managment things will again be back to the 7--90 dollar range no matter the economic conditions, they do have some excellent board members. i have been lucky most of my older stock was a gift but started my wife and i a retirement and we have since added 350 shares at $19.50 to bring that part of our portfolio to 570 shares which we plan to have at a thousand by the end of the year.

I consider Fridges, washers, cookers basic essentials, which will need to be replaced at end of lifetime.
So after allowing for lack of revenue from new home market, valuation looks compelling, even with share dilution risk from debt.
Plus if dollar weakens next year, overseas sales may get boost.

Trading at nearly half of book value. Going to buy with real money and sit on the dividend until things pick up.

If the high end models stop selling well (wich they have), we have the low end models that sell at higher volume. They some times lable Whirlpool as producing "consumer discretionary" products. I know I'm not going down to the river to beat my laundry against the rocks. This stock is undervalued. Get it while it's on sale.

Eventually the housing and durable goods market will pick back up, this is a company that'll benifit and prosper when that happens.

Low PE and great earnings prospects. Sale of GE will place a market value on this stock that is higher than it is currently selling at.

WHR is a stable, well run company which has successfully added the Maytag line to its impressive list of brands. Material costs and energy are compressing their profit margins some this year, but margins should rebound by next year. They are raising prices to compensate. North America sales are down with housing starts, but the fast growing sales levels in Asia are compensating for the most part (overall sales are still growing). As the market returns here in North America, the componding effect on growth should be rewarding to investors. PEG is under .7
