Good historical profitability, improving fundamental metrics, not overly leveraged, cheap on basis of average book value

Consumer facing CEO and big player on exchanges should position this company well against what will be invasive smaller competition.

Wellpoint's purchase of Amerigroup puts the company in a great position to win on Medicaid managed care, which plays on both Medicaid expansion and the expansion of managed care in government programs (particularly Medicaid). Management missteps notwithstanding, the firm is positioned well for the future over the long term.

"40% off sale" based on basic Graham's number formula. New manager (CEO) focused on reasonable cost cutting and he has hospital experience (good at it, too). Should be better than last CEO. Fundamentals improving and good industry to be in no matter what the economy does. When economy is bad, people don't have as many procedures so insurers don't pay out as much. Wellpoint also wants to be heavily involved in exchanges, which may not be extremely profitable, but will definitely increase volume of customers(market share).

ACA/ObamaCare will se to it that this company accrues more profits on it's bottom line as all H.C. stocks, except Insurers, will benefit

Insurers are not well positioned yet to deal with increasing hospital negotiating power. Also I think more cyclical exposure is appropriate now.

Taiwan has a very enviable and efficient health care system. The trick is put a computer chip in insurance card and do without health administration. I personally think this is inevitable in the US. The health care bubble built up on the basis of our own inevitability to get, sick, and die.

Extremely cheap given expected earnings growth, low debt levels, and strong cash flow (for an insurance company).

Risky due to politics, but probably have expertise to deal with all the new rules and prosper.

Just got another rate hike in CA today of more than 20%. They are going nuts on rate hikes without any regulation. It's pretty unbelievable......

WLP has earnings power of nearly $9 per share. The stock is oversold after dropping on earnings report.

Excellent Valuation, confirmed by strong buybacks. Plus diversification because Healthcare insurance is negatively correlated with economic cycle. During recessions people don't go to the doctor and that improves margins at insurers. Still some obamacare hangover in the health insurance sector..
