Best retailer on earth and maybe the universe. Sam Walton was the Henry Ford of his day.

Both Amazon and Wal-Mart have competing very well at providing the lowest possible price and are both solid companies. However in terms of stock valuation, Wal-Mart is the winner.

1. AMZN's stock has been up nearly 160% YTD and may have a hard time continuing to rise as it runs out of steam. Wal-Mart on the other hand has remained flat throughout the past year and has much more room to grow.

2. Amazon trades at roughly 60x its earnings (P/E) compared to Wal-Mart at only a mere 14.2.

3. Warren Buffett reported that his stake in WMT rose to 37.8M in Q3. While this isn't a reason in itself to necessarily buy a stock, Buffett has needless to say historically performed very well when its come to choosing stocks.

4. Dividend- WMT offers a 2% dividend (5 year growth rate of 20%) while AMZN offers none.

As I mentioned earlier, I like both companies, but when it comes to the value of their stocks Wal-Mart is the winner here.

I bought Walmart over a month ago at 51.25 and wasnt too sure about it growth when it started to fall to 48 but, WalMart is proving its value now that they have focused on being the company to beat out others in value for the christmas season. I think they have broken through their range barrier and will see tremendous growth.. Look at yahoo's analysis page.. Every analyst puts this on either a strong buy or buy call.

Aggressive growth of dividends, an attractive P/E reation and a global expansion plan that can't be rivaled make WMT at no brainer for buy and hold strategies.

Adding a blue chip for some stability during market volatility. I'm confident WMT isn't going south anytime soon. If anything, it'll match the S&P.

Walmart is still hiring during a recession. If they can do that, then they will ride out this recession and come out on top.

It's walmart. They are everywhere. For some reason people think they are cheaper always, and that was true a few years ago. But consumers aren't noticing that they have been hiking up their prices big time during the past 12-18 months. Groceries alone appear to be about 20% more expensive then a year ago. The quality of their products is falling very low, but people are accepting that as the norm now! I live right outside of Bentonville Arkansas, Wally World head quarters and I hate the place. But they have the consumer pinned down, and now they can shake em down for all their cash,

Poised to have a great Christmas season. Also spending lots of money in a much-needed effort to clean up its corporate image.

I believe wallmart will out perform in the next several months to a year in the recession but will be on a steady decline after that, its a horrid place, and remarkably unpleasant, but with the economy the way it is, it will thrive on the broken and downtrodden during the christmas holidays
