Morningstar Wide Moat Focus ETN
Recs
Just betting on Morningstar's capability to correctly identify wide moat status and this ETN invests in the 20 stocks with the lowest price to fair value ratio - this one has to outperform the S&P 500

This continuously-managed collection of (20) price-to-fair value leaders with WIDE MOATS is the creation of the folks at Morningstar. The (20) stocks regularly match stocks which capture our interest at www.manifestinvesting.com and our selection methods are similar. This exchange-traded note (ETN) hit the cover off the ball while smacking it out of the park during 2009 ... and we wouldn't be surprised to see strong performance continue. WMW appears to be a great idea for passively active fund investors.

It just makes sense.

5 people made pitches and only one of them actually knows what WMW is....shocking.
WMW is the Elements Morningstar Wide Moat Focus Index Exchange Traded Note (ETN). This index has put performed the S&P 500 by 5.7% since its inception in 2002.
An ETN is like an ETF but a) generally does not make taxable distributions and is technically a pool of senior unsecured notes. Thus, it has even more tax advantages than an ETF offset somewhat by the fact that there is issuer risk.
On the whole, not a core holding because of the issuer risk, but beating the S&P 500 in truly tax-deferred vehicle that is 20X more diversified than an individual stock seems like a no-brainer to me.
It is even equal weighted, thus avoiding the issues with cap weighting.

This ETF holds positions in the 20 best wide moat stocks, as determined by ratio of fair value to stock price. Only data and moat analysis from Morningstar is used, but this is essentially a constantly updated basket of quality stocks sold at a discount to fair value. Seems like a winning combo.

VMware is the pioneer of virtualization software, and right now virtualization is very hot in the computer industry. Vwmare had their IPO last summer and the stocl wnet nuts. They have been down over the last few months, with the threat of competition, however VMW significantly beat the street in Q1, they are still the leading in the uindustry and with only 10% of that market yet tapped VWM has a large upside for the next couple of years.

OK what does WMW stand for?

In anticipation of the eventual rebound of the financial sector. A little early for bottom feeding, but I am just indiscriminately putting all stocks that are tagged Bank.
