WU will do bette,r as economic rcovery in developing countries and in USA

The firm is one of only two major money transfer services. I like the fact that it weathered the great recession well, barely missing a beat in the 08-09 timeframe. YTD there is moderate growth while valuation is truly compelling, with a forward p/e ratio not far over 10x and a free cash ratio (operating cash flow - capex)/market cap that is around 8%.
Recs
Payment processing systems (such as WU, V, MC, D, AMEX....) will grow with the rebound of the entire USA market system along with the rest of the financial system.

Western Union is under new management, and has been adding agents to it's network around the world. It is starting to gain some traction as the economy improves.

The defacto standard for shipping money all over the world. Not everyone has a paypal account nor will everyone get one. The vast majority of people receiving remittances in developing countries rely on Western Union.

Profitable company, weathered the financial crisis hard to duplicate the network of offices. Requires little capital so free cash flow is good. Learned of it from a newsletter, did my own research. Bought some today

Strong market share in an industry that has a quickly growing importance as globalization continues.

Now I hate to short this guy given that he was my second-favorite character in "Deadwood." (After Swearengen, naturally.) But WU looks like he is developing a bit of a head and shoulders top. Plus, longer-term, I kind of wonder about essentially a 19th-century business model in a PayPal sort of world. C@c&$^c&@r$!!!!!!!!!!!

undervalued currently

I bought my first stock on 10/6/2010. I had little idea of what I was doing, and I made this pick primarily out of superstition. My father worked for Western Union as a telegraph operator many decades ago. I now know more than I did on October 6.
Recs
Western Union remains the best way to send cash from point to point.

helps poor folk move money around, more people living and working abroad means this stock should do well

Every Nigerian 419 scammers' favourite payment method. Worldwide exposure.

Seems like a turnaround is in order... or it has for the last 3 years anyway. Too many changes in their leadership, dividend is too small, and their business model is slowly going the way of the dodo as more of the world is connected by super-fast internet.
