A basic industry that will recover with the economy and
should benefit from stimulus money. Steel will figure
into autos and infrastructure mightily. May be a longtime bet.

it doesn't matter how much the stock price has fallen for a doomed company.

The global economy is free falling. Unemployment rate will continue to rise. Commodity prices will continue to fall. Don't listen to Cramer. He knows nothing. He said that the bottoming of the crisis was last year. What a joke!! Play it smart and stay out of this market for now!

Rust has set in and the steel sector is going to hurt for several reasons. The first is obvious; slumping auto sales. The second is a little less noticeable as foreign ownership takes advantage of slab castings in less "Green conscious" countries. I predict more slabs, cheaper steel and less domestic melting. Growing competition with foreign slabs and a lack of demand will weaken profitability.

The technicals look bad. The fundamentals tell me that this is a bubble. We get a mild head cold and the rest of the planet gets a bad case of the flu. With the sub-prime mess effectively wiping out much of the middle class equity; how are consumers going to buy products without 2nd mortgage money?

India and other companies are showing sign of an aproaching recession which means steel and steel products will not be as high of a demand.

American Steel has hit a pretty good all time high. Every once in a while I'll look at them 120...147...181?? I got a feeling they might go down, most people think that when a stock hits an all time high. Looking at the calls for June 08, 175 strike paying 13.60 looks good, that 7.5%, 4% if it gets called out, better than a stick in the eye aye guess.

Steel has been doing very well, not just this company. But this stock is VERY overvalued and will drop probably to $110 or $100. Then that's when I'll look into buying or not. But for right now: Take your profits or just watch for the fireworks.

X will hit under $80 by the end of Feb 2007. Save your money buying this stock. Wait for this drop before looking at even a possibilty of a purchase.

The operational efficiency of US Steel is not a match to its competitors and it has a big overhang of retirees and medicare cost, With consolidation happening in steel industry and matching synergies US Steel will find itself more out of competition with its inherent cost not to mention the chinese overcapacity with steel

Steel can't maintain its current pricing. The only thing that helps X is consolidation in the market in the form of a buyout.
