need further downsize to survive, probably better just to flip the switch & shut doors, would be a great catalyst for the steel industry B

What it boils down to is steel is the most important construction metal. While the down economy and construction sector are dragging sales down. the companies biggest current threat is from increases overseas exports. As soon as the US or Chinese economy starts to heat the demand for steal will recover with it. US Steel has been using the down cycle to lean its operations and management. This positions them as a main supply when demand recovers.

Steel demand rising, US economy still recovering. X restructuring seems to be working and may result in a much higher market cap once the market realizes that this company is going to bring in steady profits. Carnegie way - all the way.

I was bullish on coking coal, and so far, very wrong. Steel demand, however, has increased quite significantly. If coal prices continue to remain this cheap then steel makers will have huge leverage with input costs steady, and output prices rising.

Moving up off the bottom of its cyclical trough. I expect it to run higher for the next few years and get close to its cyclical peak by about 2016 or so. Longer Term Price Target ~$50.

I notice the construction season is in full swing. Steel is one product that construction uses a lot.

I think we'll see a civic construction boom in Obama's second term that will need a lot of steel, preferably from the U.S.A.
