I sure hope the consensus is right on this one. I am heavily vested in XOM and have been for quite a few years. It was doing great for years, with several splits in the 90's, but has see-sawed in recent years, long before the BP deal. I can't bring myself to sell my shares, but wonder why, before the gulf spill, investors have not seen the value, dividend advantage, and long-term viability of this huge conglomerate. XOM, not too long ago, was the largest corp in the world, and is still close. Any thoughts out there?

This stock has been beaten down lately, no brainer buy.

I work in the energy industry. XOM is all business. They make solid, supportable decisions the majority of the time. As the mess in the GoM gets straightened out, companies like XOM will be in a good place to profits from whatever changes are coming. Also, as development slows, prices for energy will increase (though perhaps not for a year or more) and XOM sits on solid reserves.
Note: personally, I am waiting for this sector to fall some more before I put my money into it. But that is just gambling- I am wtching several stocks and sectors and this is not the best play for me, yet. THe current valuation is a solid bet on the market, however. If the market drops, XOM will drop less than its peers and its sector will fall less than the market overall.

Global presence with outstanding employees. Slow but continued long term growth. Capable to explore anywhere in the world. Price of oil will only increase over the next five to ten years. Has cash reserves to also increase oil reserves thru acquisitions.

Exxon/Mobil is one I've owned personally since 2002 and I continue to like what they offer shareholders. Despite the industry-wide beatdown of late, XOM continues to pay one of the most solid dividends in the segment (currently seeing 3% at this level). I particularly like them in the sub-$59 range while the DOW remains near 10K. I feel that XOM will make a strong comeback once BP's issues begin to get truly resolved. I'll continue to remain on-board for the long haul with this pick and earn a nice % in the meantime...

Hard assets, cash on hand, and great dividends. What else could you ask for? How about the world's largest integrated oil and gas company with the addition of XTO.

Market is down and all the bad press from the oil spill is hurting not only Bp but the entire industry. Exxon just won't have to be the ones paying out for the clean up and all the lawsuits.

Will see a bounce once the gulf spill is stopped meanwhile the fundamentals are still strong

ridiculously cheap right now.

Oil is and always has been the driving force of international relations. ExxonMobil is a company that has been rock solid through shortages, spills, and will continue to pay dividends until a global transition to solar power is made.

Best price in years, yield over 3%, and didn't get this low in the '08-'09 meltdown...

Stock is right at a 3 year low and is becoming an accidental high yielder. Although some exposure to gulf , bad news already priced in along with active hurricane forecasts. Can't imagine it will not make a move to upside soon. Also big nat gas play with xto acq.

Killed by BP spill, but expect this one to come roaring back in the next few months....
Recs
It has a forward P/E of around 6, pays a 3% dividend, is trading at a 5 year low and has been down in price caused by the BP spill.
Recs
Oil giant with neat little dividend - will stay strong and get stronger as oil prices go back up in the relatively near future.
Recs
Here come the high gas prices and record profits.
Recs
As British Petroleum starts to go under, more of the market will flood to Exxon.
Recs
Demand for crude will pick-up steadily as the economic recovery continues and the developing nations continue buying more automobiles.
Recs
Looks like steady growth since 1975 at least.
Recs
The BP oil spill has negatively affected companies - like Exxon - that have nothing to do with this problem. XOM survived and has thrived after the Exxon Valdis (spelliing!).
