****

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Commodity prices are falling, so why buy a U.S.-based zinc producer? First, Horsehead has virtually no debt and surplus cash to allow it to ride out the downdraft in metal prices. Second, it is the largest U.S-based zinc producer with locations in IL, OK, PA, TN, and TX, placing it nearby steel pla...More

With lighter, more durable, cheaper and abundant materials out there like resin, I think we'll see a decline in the use of zinc. The processing is becoming more expensive and the shipping costs are increasingly rising. Lightweight materials have replaced ceramic and porcelain over the last 20 or so ...More

Commodities are oversold. Automobile downturn is over done. I mean is anyone going to actually stop driving. No one? Ok, so I guess we will still have to build more cars......and by the way, ZINC is in everyone of them, no matter who builds the car, or what country they are from. Zinc commodity at $.75 is cheap and will return to $1.00 level in under a year. PE at 4.44 is great value. I am most impressed with management having hedging zinc prices while they were falling. I expect to see a slow rise to near $10 a share by end of 2008. By Aug 2009 I would think that $14 is realistic.

Consider the price of zinc at this time, should see good growth in short period of time.

Looks severely undervalued, even using modest 15% growth and 15% DCF rate. At these rates, price is currently about 75% under-valued, and with a little global economic stimulation to pump some life back into zinc demand and price levels, could see several years of great growth . No LT debt, current ratio near 5, good cash on hand and flow, a P/E < 4 and P/S around .5, once global economy begins to breathe again, what's there to dislike?
