I've got some of Zoins Stocks and they haven't disappointed me in the least. I know that this stock is the best pick for future investing.

Zions bank stock price has almost been halved from the 52 week high. Stockscouter calls Zions Bank a mid-cap Growth company, but at current price under $50, I call it growth for value. There is regular insider buying including a mid Feb,2008 purchase by CEO of $300,000.

Zions says they have no subprime exposure and in my opinion their credibility is high. They have written down minor amounts as the subprime contagion has spread to other loan backed and mortgage backed securities.

Analysts point out that Zions has a higher than desirable exposure to construction and development loans.around 20-25% of loan portfolio. This results in a moderate sell rating on MSN analyst rating page. However, the real estatel market along the Wasatch Front of Utah, the primary location of Zions Bank, is currently one of the strongest in the country.

From my experience, Utah's economy typically lags the national economy by about two years which may mean that there will be future pain in the real estate market.

The saving grace may be Latter Day Saints (Mormon) religion building their version of the Vatican downtiown SLC. (remember the Winter Olympics?) This billion dollar plus project which just commenced with the destruction of a $30,000,000 enclosed shopping mall may keep the local economy booming for years to come and minimize pain in the real estate market. The church is building the project with cash.

Financial stocks have been hit pretty hard lately, and Zion's is no exception. This is the perfect time to pick this stock up a reduced price. It's about 60% off of its 52 week high. This stock also pays a nice dividend (which has been increased over the years) which will produce income each quarter that can be reinvested to build a bigger position in the stock. Long term this is an excellent stock to own

Zions Bancorp net earnings applicable to common shareholders increased 20.7% to reach $579.3 million in 2006 apart from experiencing strong loan and deposit growth. Major portion of its lending caters to mid size business, tied to the prime rate or LIBOR. Moreover the strong loan growth coupled with low cost deposits would help it post stable net interest margins. Endorsing the same its net interest margin for 2006 stands at a phenomenal 4.63%, the best amongst its peer group.

Though efficiency ratio has taken a hit it is expected to improve once Amegy integration is completed. Its superior credit risk management systems along with loan policies and procedures, and compliance examinations have helped it keeping its asset quality good over the years. Its loan portfolio is conservatively managed avoiding exposure to sub prime lending with strong underwriting practices. After building its capital ratios it has planned for $400 million share repurchase program.

Zions sees huge growth prospects in Nevada and Arizona with U.S. Census Bureau projecting the areas population to double in the coming years. Texas remains another promising area, with its local brand identity and local relationship would help it serve them better. A huge amount of investments have been made in treasury management products that primarily cater to the small businesses and acquisition of Amegy would facilitate it better. It is also positive over its wealth management business Contango Capital Advisors expected it to break even in 2007. The management expects the economic conditions in the geographical area it serves to be strong in 2007 and all set to beat the market.

This bank is very well managed and will continue to grow by a successful acquisition strategy. It's been working for the last 10 years at least and is likely to continue to work for them. They are good at it.

Another one that I just simply like the stock. I have watched it and I like what I see. Another I would invest in if I had the money. I believe oil stock is a winner for the time being.

Fantastic bank; efficient, especially for a commercial lender. Wish they would consolidate their five bank charters.

Large scale economic growth in the west with general Western population shifting. Just a hunch but I'm looking for more borrowing in the West.
