I finally "get" conservative dividend investing

During my investing tenure, I have shied away from mature dividend-producing companies in my portfolios, preferring to focus on companies that were smaller and pumped earnings back into their company to spur growth.   I always believed that dividends sucked the lifeblood out of a company and prevented growth and expansion.   I do think that finding well-managed small companies that invest wisely in their own growth is a great strategy....however, finding those companies can be difficult and requires some significant research to weed out poorly run or poorly controlled companies.    [more]

For the record, I have voted Republican in every election since I came to voting age 19 years ago.   I had been considering moving in a different direction due to uncertainty about the qualifications and plans of the current Republican candidate.   I went into last night's debate wanting to hear Governor Romney explain his tax proposal, because I had heard so many different takes on it that I really didn't understand what he was trying to accomplish.    I also wanted to see how Romney presented himself on a national stage.   Was he "Presidential"?    [more]
