Founded in 2001, this small company has grown to seven? offices in California. If you don't already know Cali has a goal of 1million solar roofs by 2018, http://gov.ca.gov/index.php/press-release/3588/ . Being a marketer/installer lets AKNS win no matter who is making the best tech. They are about to blow up in 2008/2009?

Akeena Solar, Inc. AKNS, a leading designer and installer of solar power systems, opened a new office in Palm Springs today, bringing a local solar energy option to the Coachella Valley's alternative energy-hungry consumers.

Akeena's Palm Springs office marks the solar innovator's seventh site in California, as the company continues to expand and invest in the state to meet the rapidly growing demand for solar power from both residential and commercial customers. Akeena recently launched a solar panel called Andalay which incorporates higher efficiency, increased reliability and innovative design.

California continues to be the largest solar power market in the United States, much in part due to the California Solar Initiative, which makes solar power systems an attractive option for commercial and residential buildings. In addition to Palm Springs, Akeena has offices in Los Gatos, Santa Rosa, Lake Forest, Fresno, Bakersfield and Manteca.

On a national level, support for solar power continues to grow as Americans become more concerned about their sources of energy and of environmentally friendly alternatives. With the right support, solar energy - America's most abundant renewable resource - is poised to provide an estimated 50 percent of all new electricity in the US within eight years.

They are the innovative solar company of the future. Here's my take on things: More and more people will immediately start moving towards electric cars to save on fuel costs. Short trip taxi cabs may even one day be electric. Post office jeeps may one day be electric. Construction site trucks may one day be electric, and on and on. What's the drawback? Well, you have to spend money on electricity to re-energize these vehicles overnight. BUT... If you have Akeena solar panels at your home, post office or warehouse, THERE IS NO COST FOR THE ELECTRICITY. Solar panels and electric vehicles are also perfect for many countries that do not have a gas station on every corner. I also keep thinking about how England pays $11.00 for a gallon of gas. The solar industry is on the cusp of a revolution, and 2008 will likely be seen as the beginning. As a solar power installer, Akeena Solar is in an excellent position to benefit from this revolution long term; just don't get too exuberant before profits actually arrive.
