Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Outstanding cancer drug pipeline, with two drugs in multiple cancer indications, one in phase III, which treats advanced sarcomas, where no new treatment has become available in 25 years, and with interm results due at the end of 2008. Up to $1 billion in financial obligations has been provided (based on milestone achievements) to ARIAD by Merck, so essentially Merck is funding Ariad's pipline development for one of their drugs (Defro). The foundation of their drug pipeline is the mTOR inhibitor, which other drug companies have approved products in use presently, which implies the chance of approval by the FDA is great do to the existing mTOR drugs already approved. A new small molecule compound will be revealed at the end of the year, bringing the total number of compounds to three, in many different cancer indications. And, most importantly, Ariad has kept the rights to sell their drugs in the USA, so they plan to be a stand alone oncology company, booking sales and profits. Merck will sell and book one of the drugs (Deformulis- sp) outside of the USA. Ariad still has the opportunity to partner with the other two compounds in development.

3 year low, Merck partnership, fast-track FDA approval, niche drugs. Cancer isn't going anywhere, so while short returns won't necessarily be forthcoming, buying and holding for the long run should produce some impressive results.

Ariad is long overdue, has flown under the radar, is an excellent risk for vastly superior returns inthe next 18 months. just now being noticed after hitting nearly a three -year low, 30-60% near term gain likely within months, 3-bagger possible within 1-2 years. The time is now.
