Pop quiz. What are the two worst sectors to be in in 2008? Financials and real estate. BRT's only business is both. As a short-term lender for commercial real estate, the company is getting hammered by market forces of the worst kind: no activitity to generate lending fees and added costs for foreclosing on the properties on which it made loans. BRT will recover as the real estate and commercial lending markets recover, but it will take years. Unless you are bottom fishing, stay away.

I think it will continue a downward slide for a bit longer. Having said that, I think I will be adding this one to my portfolio soon. Why? Fundamentals look good for this company, what a delicious dividend, and with all the gloom and doom around real estate, isn't it time for smart investors to pick up on a deal. At the time of this writing, it's just barely above it's 52-wk low.

This stock pays a good dividend, and I think that the share price has hit bottom.

Fundamental analysis is very good - they've weathered the financial crisis well and still turn a good profit. Long established history of management performance prior to the credit crunch. Insider buys at the end of 2007 are also a good sign. Outstanding dividend yields, low debt. Go for it!
