Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

With the current stock market volatility, the Blackstone Group would do extremely well by next quarter and for the rest of the year. It's a stockpicker's market right now, and BX is one of the best out there for this type of game....highly-leveraged private equity=high returns in this recession-wor...More

Lots of risk with this one, but it is spread out among a wide variety of funds. Diversifying helps, but I think most of these funds will suffer in the near term.

As with many IPO's BX went down. The mortgage & derivative mess has pummeled the stock. I bought in BX in Feb/08 @ $16.36 & added to my IRA position in march @ $14.03.
BX has long history of making money before it's IPO & many of same people still work there. BX cash position & debt/equity (0.11) ratio is very good compared to many of it's competitors.
In the current credit mess a smart company with money can cherry pick making good long term plays that will payoff handsomely in a couple of years.
I see possibility of another downturn in stock price as market continues to gyrate. But long term (3 to 5 years) this stock will outperform.

Debt equity ratio 0.11
leverage ratio 3.2 vs industry 5.4
Book value 15
income & revenue per employee is 2:1 vs industry.
