Chicago Bridge & Iron Company N.V. (CBI)

CAPS Rating:
*****

An engineering, procurement and construction company, serving customers in a number of key industries including oil and gas; petrochemical and chemical; power; water and wastewater; and metals and mining.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Giving the thumbs up to CBI on a 4.33% pullback. CBI gives my CAPS portfolio broad exposure to oil and gas, chemical, power, water and mining.

Over the last two months CBI has won major contracts to: 1.) construct a fuel and crude oil storage facility at Houston's Ship Channel Terminal; 2.) construct petroleum storage facilities for the Trans-Panama Pipeline Project--a $40M contract; and 3.) construct a large scale hydrogen plant in California--a $90M contract.

I'm encouraged by CBI's financial strength, their 15% increase in EPS over the TTM, their 40% increase in sales over the TTM, and a P/E trading on the low side of their 5 year range. (22.30 vs. range of 10 - 206.3).

A potentially great infrastructure play (and Capital One likes 'em). Outperform.

Global powerhouse well placed in some of the most dynamic emerging markets. Good industry sector to be in, should be a no brainer at current price

CBI has pulled back from its last earnings report, which is a temporary hiccup in its long term price appreciation. Worldwide infastructure buildout will continue, and CBI will continue to land more and more business.
