Comcast Corp (CMCSA)

CAPS Rating:
**

A cable operator in the United States and offers a variety of consumer entertainment and communication products and services.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

I'm bullish on Comcast for a number of reasons at this price.

First, despite all the fears about competition, Comcast is thus far winning the war for the living room. For every 1 basic cable sub they lose to the telcos, they're gaining 2 telephone subs, give or take. And from what I understand, m...More

Comcast services are much too expensive. They will not be able to maintain those prices, given the competition (and better prices) of the satellite-companies, FiOS and the recent FCC-approval of a rule that would ban exclusive agreements that cable TV operators have with appartment buildings (we are...More

Comcast, the largest cable company in the US. is now a triple play.
First: basic and premium cable channels offering an ever growing combination of new and extra services, such as pay per view and films on demand, music channels etc.
Second:High speed Internet connections available to almost all existing cable customers.
Third: New low cost local and long distance phone service also ready to serve an already captive cable audience. These services can be bundled as a sweetner to existing subscribers.
There will be some competion from the former bell companies as well as sattelite dish firms, but comcast has a huge cash flow and should more than hold its own in a fast growing media sub-sector.

The last thing consumers will relinquish during this ongoing mortgage/food/energy crisis will be their home entertainment. Despite a relatively high P/E (23), I would have to call Comcast to outperform in the future.

Simple: if you can't afford gas, stay home and watch TV. Comcast has been working real hard to get their share of the market across this Nation. They certainly should get an A for effort. Nothing like a pocket full of money and sheer determination. They are a good solid company and it looks like they're on they're way up!
