Carlisle Companies, Inc. (CSL)

CAPS Rating:
*****

A diversified manufacturing company focused on achieving profitable growth internally through new product development and product line extensions, and externally through acquisitions that complement its existing technologies, products and market channels.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Why I like this company:
1. A large, highly diversified manufacturing company which has been around since 1917 (over 90 years old). While this doesn't provide a unique durable competitive advantage, it shows staying power which is a strong factor.
2. EPS consistently rising: In the last 10 years it has risen year on year with the exception of 2001 for obvious reasons.
4. Average ROE over the last 10 years: Approxiamtely 16%
5. Average ROC ocver the last 10 years: Apprximately 17%
6. Payback period of Long-term debt: 0.8 years
7. Current PE of 10 is nice ... current price is good ($28ish)

Risks:
1. Global Recession. Everyone is facing this. Sales will likely decrease for Carlisle (and everyone). GO LONG people. Think long term ... this company has been around since 1917 and may have seen a recession or two ;)
2. Gas Prices. The transport division WILL suffer. Maybe it's worth spinning this off ... unless they have a plan. Cost of manufacturing goods will also increase (transportation of materials for construction)

There's risk in everything, but the numbers and the business are strong enough for me!

A well-run industrial goods maker with a consistent history of increasing dividends and earnings. Leveraged to outperform at first sign of economic recovery in USA.
