CAPS Rating:
*

The Company is a homebuilding company, which constructs and sells single-family homes through its operating divisions in 25 states and 74 metropolitan markets of the United States.

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Fear and Greed- Ok, so we're in the fear cycle. That's fantasitic! I love sales on stocks. This company has all the fundamentals in place to weather a storm. The inevitable tax break for home purchases is a few months away but it will be a circut-breaker reset for greed. In addition. When the ...More

Horton has been poorly managed for years. They helped create this mess by sheer force of greed....now they are laying off thousands of workers while the top people continue to rake in millions in bogus "bonuses". This company, like most of the other greedy homebuilders, will continue to plummet into...More

So the housing industry stinks, and probably will for a while longer. This is an opportunity for builders with a strong balance sheet to pick up properties on the cheap from builders who aren't able to weather the storm. DHI may be dead money for a while, but at these levels it's got a floor with plenty of upside.

Ah yes, Horton hears a Who? Another company losing 25% in income in a narrow niche of building residential homes in the middle of a housing crisis. Again at a low in price but with a company that looses 2.3 Bil and has to move 5.5+ just to stick to a .27 EPS for 2009 in a Bear Market. Can you see the beginning of an impossibility factor here? I do. With recovery not coming for months, I think this one will continue to suffer.

a few housing construction stocks have popped up on my momentum screen...

signaling an end to what investors have seen as the housing slump.

Also, history repeats itself in this sector --- look at the market in 2000-2003. While everything was sinking, the only sector that was steadily rising was HOUSING.
