The Walt Disney Company (DIS)

CAPS Rating:
****

The Walt Disney Company, together with its subsidiaries, is a diversified worldwide entertainment company with operations in four business segments: Media Networks, Parks and Resorts, Studio Entertainment and Consumer Products.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Disney has shown excellent progression since the 1920’s putting it as a great buy at anytime. With Mickey Mouse being one of the largest children idols in the world there’s no way Disney could go wrong. Three Classic Fairy Tales is a new on stage show that will grab people’s attention all over the w...More

economy taking a downturn, and more and more and more consumers creating their own content to compete with Big Media. There is too much bureacracy in these companies to respond to this threat quickly. If Rupert can steal MySpace for 500 mil - maybe he can do it, but I think these guys lose out in ...More

Disney can never lose - except that they keep investing in losers like Hannah Montanna (my daughter idolized her). They have Disneyland/world and make tons of money on their cartoonish kids movies. This is a sure bet!

Bob Iger has given this company the shot in the arm it has been waiting for. Eisner did the same, initially, but there was definitely a need for new blood after he finished creating this monster. Iger is making most of the right choices. Pixar will pay off in spades. He was obviously spot on when he said early in his tenure that online content is the way ahead. I think Iger will set this company up to grow for the next 3-5 years, if not more.

2nd time around for the stock and I am taking advantage of lower stock price. Just trying to set-up for the small bear rally right now. I rally believe in this stock because of history, fundamentals, and for the long term this will still be quite viable.
