Solid financials and ratios. In a recession, the entire industry will perform well. I like this one and Family Dollar the best because of their size and people like the small in and out stores for last second groceries, good deals, and stocking stuffers.

Their recent total sales falling short of expections might mean that the increased pricing pressure from not only other dollar stores but also the likes of Wal-Mart is taking hold. The range of economic analysis' of the next five years say we are in for a slow recovery from this sub-prime mess. Sales figures for all of the discounters show they are attracting more buyers than before sub-primes hit the fan.

That said, of all the discount retailers I have reviewed I like DLTR because:
(1) P/E is ripe
(2) At least twice total assets to total laibilities
(3) They have performed (sales figures)the best of those I have reviewed consistently.
(4) Well capitalized

who isn't taking advantage of this store to stretch the family budget? Should fight the market trend....
