Dendreon Corp (DNDN)

CAPS Rating:
**

A biotechnology company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of novel therapeutics that harness the immune system to fight cancer.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

This company is sitting on a blockbuster advance in treatment of late stage prostrate cancer. The compound is a biologic and therefore is a bit of a political football with the FDA. Fortunately, the drug is relatively harmless and very effective for cases that have been unresponsive to other treat...More

Doubling-down on this one. Still lots of cash going out this company's doors, and in the economy, things are going to get a lot tighter than looser. This company still enjoys (some) overblown hype on its cancer drug, as shown by the FDA's calls, but I don't think that's going to last much longer. It...More

This stock is stuck in a range until its long term trials are released. Near bottom of that range.

This company still enjoys (some) overblown hype on its cancer drug, as shown by the FDA's calls, but I don't think that's going to last much longer. It's still bleeding red ink and carries a HUGE debt load (D/E=445%!). Most of its numbers are negative, and negative in large double- or triple-digits. This is definitely not a company I'd ever want to invest in, except to short as I'm doing here. This stock will continue to slide back down to $4/shr or so. Who knows? At this rate, it could slide all the way into bankruptcy.

Now is the time to buy. Dendreon will rocket if and when the IMPACT phase 3 trial for Provenge achieves statistical significance. Every indication points in that direction.

taking a bit of a gamble here... i expect provenge has stirred up enough anger to have the FDA approve it quickly. it may take until mid 2009, but the upside is tremendous. the downside is not really all that bad, especially in CAPS land!

The only thing worse then cancer is having stock in companies that "fight" cancer.
Look everyone knows cancer is bad, but there is no money in cures only in treatments. And old treatments move out all the time because some new "improved" treatment rolls in only to be shuffled out because there is something "better" so what I'm trying to say is this. If it is not a cure the company will NOT last. New treatments to cancer reminds me of fads and when they stay around longer they just become pump and dump. Look if you think investing in cancer is a good idea then I'll tell you the same thing I told the people who think the world can run on corn wake the Heck up. The market especially in a down trend market has no room for your dreams and ideals.

No one will make the claim the cancer is good or can’t be cured. My point is no company has a cure therefore there fads, trends at best and will fade away quicker then that started. The thing is, in order to get people to actually look for a cure you have to get them to stop liking money.
