The Corporate Executive Board Company (EXBD)

CAPS Rating:
****

The Company provides 'best practices' research, decision support tools and executive education focusing on corporate strategy, operations and general management issues.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Things don’t seem to go well for EXBD facing problems with shortfalls in contract values mainly due to new sales efforts. The sales team had dropped to just 255 members due to its inability to generate quality resumes to fill its position and does not have enough feet on the street. Re...More

This is basically a fancy consulting company. In times of slow corporate profit growth, consulting services like this are considered discretionary, and are the first things to be cut. This company is still priced for growth, which might not return for a few years. I'm also doubtful of the extent of up-selling and cross-selling opportunities available to them. They seem to have the SP500 penetrated pretty well already...

It's one of those business that's low cost and it helps to be the first mover in the space. The longer you're around, the more you accumulate reputation, and the more reputation you have, the more valuable your services seem. It is almost infinately scaleable, and it's a matter of people realizing the value of the services and signing up.

This company has a virtual monoply on Fortune 500 business consulting services. While domestic growth is a concern in light of the fact that EXBD has virtually saturated the Fortune 500, EXBD promises to add additional services to those currently available to their enviable client base, and look for substantial growth abroad and EXBD begins to penetrate foreign markets and make EXBD membership as indispensible to business leaders there as it is here,
