Fannie Mae (FNM)

CAPS Rating:
*

A shareholder-owned company, which provides affordable housing capital to local communities in order to serve the U.S. housing market.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

This one just like Fannie may goto zero but they will never go out of business. I read thru some of your posts and I just laugh. Both Fre and Fnm are GOV baked banks like it or not. Those 2 wont be allowed to fail. No I don't own stocks in these 2 but I do have 3 mortgages with them. THERE ARE THE B...More

Note to self: the next time crap like this rallies, wait a day or two before deciding to give it the red thumb.

How can bailing out the bond holders raise the stock value of a failed company so much in so short a time? Forget about subprime and Alt-A loans and just think about a slowing economy, increasing unemployment, and the continued deflation of housing values. FNM and FRE are going to fall back to their recent lows as bottom fishing investors take profits and wake up to the true value of these stocks.

With the government backing this one it can still be a looser but I still want to follow the money, my tax dollars at work.

Bought when it dropped under $10/share. Uncle Sam won't allow this one to fail.

This is an election year. Many parties on each side of the presidential race have a vested interest in keeping Fannie and Freddie alive. Therefore, my advice is to play the volatility and forget about valuations.

This company is junk for obvious reasons such as no equity and "un-analyzable" balance sheets. However, the stock price will have nothing to do with the underlying company, unfortunately. At this point it's a tug-o-war between angry and anxious investors.

Good luck to all who will play this game of roulette in the next few months.

Yes I know this is beaten down right now...but that's just the point. This and Freddie Mac will not be allowed to go under. The main risk that I see right now is a Government takeover, but I think that will be a relatively small risk; one that I'm taking with real money. Should have added this to my stock list when I bought it last week, would have already shown in the green.
