Gaylord Entertainment Company (GET)

CAPS Rating:
*

A diversified hospitality and entertainment company operating, through its subsidiaries, principally in four business segments: Hospitality; ResortQuest; Opry and Attractions; and Corporate and Other.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Well, they own some nice properties, that's true. However, they last turned a profit in 2003 and that was a whopping seven cents a share. So they've been losing money for three years and are expected to post another loss this year. Plus, they're highly levered (3.3 debt/equity ratio). Looks pretty r...More

Hotel chain that books primarily convention business. They booked much of the business that will be done in the next three years at better rates than the competition. Added at a PE of 9.1

Generated negative OCF for Q1 '08, negative free cash flow (crude analysis) since Q2 '07, and they're operating in a stagnating economy where businesses will shy away from presentations and conferences to keep costs down.

Management is also not that great, as they've generated lower ROA and ROE than their Hotel & Motel competitors.

They're going to struggle now and into the foreseeable future.
