streetTRACKS Gold Trust (ETF) (GLD)

CAPS Rating:
****

Exchange Traded Funds

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Gold is going through $1,650 in short order, on its way through $2,000 and beyond. The US Dollar has no support, technical nor fundamental. Congress and the FED have made it blatantly obvious that they are willing to desperately try to print / inflate their way out of this mess, and this makes gol...More

There is a big equalization going on in standard of living around the world. This equalization will contribute to inflation in this country (the USA) and, therefore, will help the price of gold. This equalization will not occur in a strong dollar environment. How can it? The dollar is over-valued and has been for the past four decades. Just look at our trade deficit. The only difference now is that the US is the largest debtor nation and government's (the US and foreign) attempts to prop up the dollar will become more more difficult. For example, how can Bernanke raise rates with the economy is such dire straights? He can't, even though he knows inflation will be a problem. How can Asian countries continue to accumulate dollars without using them effectively. Ok, if they decide to use the dollars for wall paper of expensive fuel, then maybe this charade can continue but I doubt they will do that, at least for any significant length of time.

Gold is ready to breakout again. It's a wild ride with this commodity, however; I feel that the gold investment has been unjustifiably quiet. With inflation high, the USD low, oil at 145 dollars a barrel - you'd think we would see gold on a sidecar with oil. Nope, hasn't really happened.... but I believe we're about to see a rotation out of oil and into gold, or at least new money into gold for the reasons stated above.

The Fed is boxed in; keeping interest rates low will win in the short term until the mortgage resets work their way out. This will continue to put downward pressure on the $.

When stocks go down, gold goes up - vice versa. This position is intended to hedge my stock-heavy portfolio. Plus, technically, there is an upward momentum currently building up in this Trust.
