"My thoughts on what has or hasn't been the cause of climate change have nothing to do with the decisions I make to advance the cause of General Motors," he wrote.

Really, Bob? So first of all, your remarks do seem to indicate that you are an idiot, generally speaking, and as a shareholder, one certainly hates to have idiots running the company.

I'm willing to agree with Bob up to a point--maybe it won't be "the decisions [he] make[s]" on behalf of GM that cause the company nosedive, but the decisions he **fails** to make. He just does doesn't get it: his company's whole business business model and corporate culture are relics of the petroleum-rich 20th century. Without leadership that can (i) see the changing dynamics of private transportation in an energy-scarcer century and (ii) respond to these new dynamics not just *before* the competitors do, but *better* than they do, GM is doomed to self-imposed failure.

I see no indications that anything at GM is changing for the better. Here we are, more than 10 years removed from the introduction of the Prius first came out, and we're still watching commercials for Hummer while waiting for a mass market version of the 'Volt'.

By the way, what's the latest on the Volt? The battery takes 6.5 hours to charge completely and you can only go 40 miles--40 MILES--on said charge. Yeah, it'll really take the world by storm. If, that is, it ever actually reaches the market. GM's hoping to have 15,000 of them available by 2010. I'll believe it when I see it.

These guys couldn't innovate their way out of a paper bag. Or maybe they could, if they weren't so intent on going down with the fossil fuel ship and taking their shareholders' money with them.

What's good for GM is still good for the United States, but both appear too boneheaded to recognize what, exactly, that is.

I have driven three new leased GM vehicles for many miles in the past few years and they were all really good cars. My Impala with a V6 got 30+ MPG cruising at 70 mph. After driving Toyotas and Hondas for the past 25 years, I was pleasantly suprised and genuinely impressed with the vehicle quality and driving characteristics. Now, if they would only correct the darned AC / Heating control so it lets ME determine where the air comes from (rather than constantly switching it to get air from the out side, thereby fumigating the inside of the car and me with diesel exhaust fumes) then I would be 100% happy with the GM cars I have been driving. Recs 2 (GM) mnymaker (97.08) Submitted: 10/10/08 11:46 AM : Start Price: $4.96 GM Score: 3.47 They refuse to innovate their design of most vehicles, rebadge the same vehicle 2 or 3 times with a different grille and hubcaps but everyone knows its the same car, and they offer wayyyyy too many options. Anyone remember the Cadillac Cimmiron? Yeah you do it was a Chevy Cavalier with leather seats and power windows. It's these kind of ideas that have driven GM into the ground. You don't see Toyota or Nissan offering that many different versions of the same car. Either you can afford a $25K Camry or a $60K Lexus but there is not going to be a $44K middle brand that no one respects because they know you can't afford the Lexus but its just a gussied up Toyota (AKA Buick).
