CAPS Rating:
**

The Company mines, processes and sells bituminous, steam- and industrial-grade coal through five operating complexes located throughout eastern Kentucky and one in southern Indiana.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

As a general rule, when your company loses money year after year, your stock price will suffer. Consider the following:

Current Assets = $77MM. Current Liabilities = $83MM (OUCH)

Long term debt = $166.24MM (OUCH)

Net losses for the past 5 quarters (at least) and...More

This stock is undervalued. There is a large demand for Appalachian coal in the eastern United States.

Up 900% last year, that's about 950% too much.

Why did this stock spike recently? Speculative bubble is my guess. People wanted to put their $ into energy stocks and commodities. It's hard to put a valuation on a cash sieve.

In the meantime, senior executives get richly rewarded. This company would be a textbook case of an anti-Buffett stock.

Wow... there is absolutely no reason for this stock to be up this high.

Insiders agree... they have been selling for as low as $10 a share this year...

The run-up is over. Regardless of how I believe oil and coal stocks are bound to go up, this is one of the few I am going to have to rate underperform.

Same play I have had confidence in with mixed results for a while now. Chinese and Indian build out of infrastructure leading to energy shortages and demand that can't keep up with supply. Coal is another player in the theory. This co. moves like crazy when it's hot. 10 percent days are not uncommon. With it beaten down and off from 62 to 36 I am invested in the real world.
