Macy's, Inc. (M)

CAPS Rating:
*

The Company is a retail organization operating retail stores that sell a range of merchandise, including men's, women's and children's apparel and accessories, cosmetics, home furnishings and other consumer goods.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

The only way I see this stock rise is if it gets bought out but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Other retail stores are pushing Macy's out of business. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone I know that shops at Macy's and no matter how cheap or great their product is, if nobody bu...More

M is a big, stable, boring company with a decent dividend, in an out-of-favor industry currently trading below book value. They deal in mostly luxury goods which means sales increase non-linearly as people have more cash to spend...I'm looking for a medium-sized rebound over the next year or so as the current fallout settles and consumer confidence returns.

Long term Macy's would be a good buy. Why? Because the American consumer will rebound someday. I wouldn't jump in just yet with cash
