Microsoft Corp (MSFT)

CAPS Rating:
***

The Company develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a range of software products for many computing devices.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Interesting chess match chess match between Microsoft and Yahoo.

Microsoft's revenue increased from $44.3B in 2006 to $51.1B in 2007, because the Zune division finally become profitable, Xbox 360/Live division flourished, and software sales. In term of software, people love to focus on Vista. T...More

I see no immediate upside for Microsoft outside of game and office software sales. They seem to be in panic mode if you ask me, as evidenced by their recent acquisition attempt of Yahoo. Google dominates search. IE is losing market share to Firefox, Safari, and Opera in the browser world. The Zune w...More

If the price drops to $23.05, invest with confidence.

Apple is going to take market share from the Vista OS, and the Xbox is getting old, so the prospects for MSFT don't look great.

MSFT is ripe, pick the fruit. It was overpriced a few years back with a 62 p/e. The P/E has been declining for several years and now it is now under priced with a P/E of 16. The 5 year average earnings per share growth is 24%. This tells me they have a large mote around their castle. Microsoft bought back back 7% of their stock last year. Stock buy backs are a better way of spending excess cash than distributing dividens.

Software is what controls computers and microsoft has more software and programmers than any other platform. Gates is a programmer and has always made it easy and cheap for developers. C sharp and VB only run on microsoft. The interactive development tools are Oh-My-God better the the competition.

Go to MSN money and look at the 10 year summaries and statements. Their fundementals are excellent. The past is a better predictor than the current soap opra news.

Too many failed attempt at buy outs. I think they will lie low for a few months and pounce on something. With Bill gone, it may get very interesting.

With Bill Gates retirement and Vista average success, this company is unsure stock for a few years.
