PROSHARES TR (MZZ)

CAPS Rating:
*

Close end exchange traded fund

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

I'm shorting all of the "Ultrashort" ETFs (but only in CAPS). They all go down twice as fast as their respective index goes up. Since I believe the stock market will continue upward over the long-term, this should easily underperform the market in that time frame.

The S&P 500 index closed at 1,305.32 on August 11, 2008. Sometime in the next 10 days we will see the S&P 500 index above 1,305.32. My guess would be between 1,315 and 1,325 as the intraday high for the S&P 500 index. My technical indicators are not quite there as far as being at a short-term top. The volatility last week will proably continue this week, especially with the labor day weekend approaching. The S&P 500 index high will probably be on Thursday with a slight pullback on Friday. A rebound on Tuesday after Labor Day to the highs set next week

CAPS drops ratings for players without 7 picks, so I am keeping active picks that counter-balance one another

"When another collapse is about to begin," he warned, "they're not going to ring any bells. Few investors will see it coming, fewer still will take protective action, and almost everyone will get caught in the melee."

Today, the bells are finally ringing and doing so loudly: The Dow has plunged by more than 20%, confirming the bear market we've been warning you about. Unemployment has skyrocketed, signaling the recession we told you was inevitable. America's largest financial companies — Citigroup and Merrill Lynch — have lost over two-thirds of their market cap. Washington Mutual has lost nine-tenths. Detroit's Big Three are on a collision course with bankruptcy.

Beat this Stock

Clicking "Beat this Stock!" will bring you to a company with a higher rating than the one you're currently viewing.

Even though CAPS shows only one- to five-star rankings, behind the scenes, all companies in CAPS have a distinct numerical ranking. In other words, there is a No. 1 stock in CAPS and a worst-ranked stock in CAPS. When you arrive at the top-ranked stock, clicking "Beat this Stock!" will cause the page to refresh.

That is, until there is a new No. 1 stock!
