CAPS Rating:
***

An integrated fertilizer and related industrial and feed products company.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Used Monday's sell-off to initiate a position in POT. I am a believer in the growing population will be consuming more protein as they raise their standard of living. More protein ala increased consumption of beef and chicken translates into more grain. Animals consume more grain that people. Increa...More

Today's sell-off is unwarranted. Today POT reported record second quarter earnings of $2.82 a share, which exceeded analyst est by $0.21 and was considerably higher than the company's own estimates of $2.20-$2.50. Sales volume jumped and third quarter and full year guidance was raised. This company is on fire. A $300 price target is very possible.

July 24th, 2008 (AP)

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. said Thursday its second-quarter profit more than tripled as demand continued to grow for the fertilizer it makes.

Potash said the $905.1 million profit for the quarter was a company record. The profit worked out to $2.82 per share for the quarter that ended June 30. During the same period last year, Potash made $285.7 million, or 88 cents per share. Revenue rose 94 percent to $2.62 billion, from $1.35 billion a year ago.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial, on average, were expecting a profit of $2.61 per share on revenue of $2.55 billion.

"With farmers around the world striving to maximize yields and placing a priority on fertilization, this quarter provided a glimpse of the future potential of our company," said President and Chief Executive Bill Doyle.

In afternoon trading, Potash shares rose $4.12 to $204.81.

POT has a record 2nd quarter and the stock falls out of the gate. It seems kind of familiar to the Apple report last week. I wonder how many shares the Potash company will buy back for under $200? I bet as much as they can with their available cash. Then they will prolly destroy (burn) these shares. There is a good chance there will be less outstanding shares when POT reports their 3rd quarter results.

I bought an additional 40 shares of POT today at $200/SHARE. BUY, BUY, BUY.

According to the 8K filed by MOS, potash and fertilizer demand are increasing despite record prices, while China will discontinue exporting resulting in reduced global supplies. This and POT are closely tied to grain prices which are (I believe) permanently inflated to current levels by the ethanol debacle.

Demand is greater than supply until 2014.
