Sears Holdings Corp (SHLD)

CAPS Rating:
**

The Company is a broadline retailer. It currently conducts its operations in three business segments: Kmart, Sears Domestic and Sears Canada.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Sears is viewed as a retailer, a holding company, the folly of Eddie Lambert, and as a lion in real-estate-lambs clothing. I view it as a potential short squeeze at around $80 a share. With more than two weeks to cover, a declared book value of $80.81, and an adjusted book value of $81.17, the har...More

Eddie is great, but SHLD is not. Terrible inventory control. Prices are higher then Target and Kohls, but stores are much uglier and sloppier. Also lacking Costco's warehouse atmosphere.

Eddie's a real bright guy and I ag...More

How to make Sears a turnaround story:

1. Ditch Kmart

2. Ditch softlines

3. Reinvest in stores (especially dealer stores)

Why this is not going to happen:

1. Sears is nothing more than a cash cow for Eddie Lampert

2. Sears seems to obsessed currently with chasing the "tween" demographic

Sears no longer stands behind their products unless you buy an expensive "warranty". That was one thing a consumer could count on. While they still have some good products, I expect that the word is getting out, and even if the economy picks up there are better places to buy almost anything
