Simon Property Group, Inc. (SPG)

CAPS Rating:
*

A self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust, engaged primarily in the ownership, development, and management of retail real estate, primarily regional malls, Premium Outlet® centers and community/lifestyle centers.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Im voting in favour of this one. How can you turn this away? 48.4 PE, Price/Cash flow ratio of 20, 15.60 profit margin, and they just reported a 9% growth in earnings! Clearly the market is over reacting, making this an excellent bargain.

Simon's malls have been growing so much over the past 5 years. Everywhere I look in the states there's another one. While that was great before and produced tremendous cash flow, a great portion of that cash flow came from people who had extra cash on hand from refinancing their home or selling thei...More

Let's see here:

A business tied directly to a pinched U.S. consumer-- a REIT that deals in malls. No thanks.

Trading at 50 P/E ratio and 8x book value....way overbought. Rochdale has a fair value of $39.

Declining earnings and projected declining earnings thru 2008...projected return to earnings growth in 2009, but I would not bet on it.

A dividend play? 3.6% taxed at regular income tax rates? If I want to play dividends, I'll take a Canadian oil sands player paying 12%+ dividends.

It amazes me that analysts still have a buy rating on this dog. Zacks (who I use and like) says this is a buy up to $106. I just don't see it.

I'll ride this one down to 70.

With the retail environment taking a hit and a number of store closings and consolidations it is time there is a correction in this stock price.
I am not sure all this is built in to the stock.
