Banco Santander Central Hispano SA (ADR) (STD)

CAPS Rating:
****

A financial group operating principally in Spain, the United Kingdom, other European countries and Latin America, offering a range of financial products.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

From what I've read, this seems to be a conservative bank that didn't go overboard in costa del sol loans. Now in a position to roll up EU banks, starting with England.
Owns banks in brazil and the US.

Steady growth.

Using the crisis to go shopping in the financial sector. They're trying to become one of the world's top ten banks, and since they've long been known for competent, efficient management, the plan might well work.

As a rule I try to avoid STDs but this one looks pretty good.

To hedge my banking bets, this is a conservative lender. THey are looking at acquiring Bank of Ireland. This should just be a stepping stone to international banking moves across the world.

The market took a digger, but STD stayed above the tide.

Well managed bank that has avoided the junk mortgage assets, and is expanding into Latin America. Low PE and debt equity ratios. Good dividend. At year low.
