Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Finally! I have seen something that makes me think this company has a chance. I went into Costco and there was a prominent display of Photostamp gift certificates.

The fundamentals of the company are strong, except for lack of revenue stream. Somehow the management believed that they were...More

Overvalued, Shows no revenue growth to support such a high PE.

Up on earnings associated with recognition of tax benefits and related full year guidance but margins are shrinking. Increased guidance in 4/07 and reversed three months later- 10.5 by 8/08

This company is at the top of its industry and may be one of the few that is recession proof. Technically the company is very sound and the PE is a reaasonable 22

Stamps management is focusing on high margin PC postage business rather than on the barely profitable photostamps. They have detremined that each invested marketing dollar in PC postage creates significantly more than 1 dollar in value for the company. The same cannot be said for photostamps. As a result, management has ramped up its marketing spend on PC postage. Operating margins suffer in the short term as a result, however this company is creating significant long-term value.
Stamps.com enjoys enormous barriers to entry in a a large, though shrinking market. Stamps is still small and has a share of around 1% of its avaialble market, although it controls over 80% of those already using PC postage. Additionally, the R&D spend will payoff in time. Stamps wil continue to improve its multi-user and enterprise technology, while also improving its current service. As it completes these technologies, the available market for stamps could increase dramatically. The room for growth is enormous.
Management is focused on allocating capital wisely. They do keep tons of it on the balance sheet but have recently indicated that they will be repurchasing shares and increasing market spend (growing the company) rather than entering or acquiring less profitable businesses. Management understands the true value of their company and many of them and directors bought shares when the stock was around $9 in late february.
Stamps generates large amounts of recurring cash. It is the low cost, convenient alternative to mail. It has minimal competition and will likely not see any additional competition soon given the long approval process (over 3 years) that the Uinted States Postal Service requires.
Finacially, stamps has over $100 million in cash on the balance sheet and no debt. They also have a deferred tax asset in the hundreds of millions. It is hard to value this asset today but basically stamps will not pay taxes anytime soon. Given these facts, insider buys, share repurchases, large spend on growth, high cash flow, and market cap around around $200 million, stmp is cheap and I believe is a great long-term buy. My average price is around $9 - as I bought when management did. Cash flow will start to increase dramatically as marketing spend on PC postage cutomers begins to payoff. We may also see strong growth from enterprise and multi-user customers. Do not expect much from photostamps as this business is not profitable and stamps has dramatically reduced its marketing spend.

I don't know, this seems like one of those little boring companies that you expect to go nowhere, but it does. I think with the recent pullback, we got a good value here and the stock should do well.
