***

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

I'm always fascinated with companies that are trading at such a depressed level that one can argue their break-up value is greater than their current stock price. Credit Suisse believes that it has found one of these sum of the parts is greater than the whole situations in Sunoco (SUN). Refiners h...More

Like this idea or lump it. But here we go again. Yet another female CEO wonder. Sometimes I think we are at the Indy 500. Carley Fiorina, Jill Barard, Sandra Fuller, Pat Russo. The story is always the same. She is tauted as the technical genius that will turn the company around, that will add great new efficiencies and has the sharp eye for cutting waste. Hmmmm. Well the honeymoon usually lasts one year. So now Sunoco has a female ceo saviour Lynn Laverty Elsenhans. She comes from an even larger more inefficient company Shell. Now she will lead the 17,000 sunoco workforce at 1.2 million dollars a year. Sound expensive to me because Sunoco is not that large. So what does she bring to the table. Oh heavens read the press releases. In all ways she is a star. She will do what all of the other female standouts have done. She will fail to understand the corporate culture. Take Jill Barard. She enjoyed shouting at subborinates and once fired a female admin assist. for bringing her tap water. She was a peach. But the problem is that Sunoco is a refiner. It is not Shell. It is a North Eastern refiner and most of the workforce are some pretty hardboiled guys that sort of resent some "lady" that never pulled duty in the wax traps.

Call me a cynic, call me whatever name you want. The honeymoon is on and it will last a year. You know, it is sort of funny, in America now 65% of persons in colleges are female. But after all this big education, spanning 25 years, we don't have any nobel prize winners in Math, Chem, or Physics. Nobody is stopping them at this point. But when the press comes in like they do with Danica Patrick, it just sets the men off. It is a gender issue out where the motor heads and grease monkeys live. Cinderella has come along and the press has paved their path with rose pedals. In the case of Sunoco, and the corporte culutre, they should have hired within the ranks. When companies do this, that is go out to find Cinderella or Chainsaw Alice, it gets rough. Morale goes through the basement. It means they don't trust their own people to manage the company. So take it as a sign of enlightenment. But before you blow off what I am saying as if I am some kind of guy holding court at the glass ceiling look at the results: Down are Sara Lee (SLE) (22%), Patricia Russo's Lucent (LU) (25%), Andrea Jung's Avon Products (AVP) (25%), Anne Mulcahy's Xerox (XRX) (12%) and Mary Sammons' Rite Aid (RAD) (3%). EBay (EBAY), an S&P 500 company approaching Fortune 500-size revenue, is down 24% this year under CEO Meg Whitman.

They come and they go but the guys with the oil stained hands just slave along while the Princess gets 1.2 million a year. One year for this hot dog. What it needs is some big integrated oil company to buy out Sun.

There are lots of reasons people give for why this is a great stock-- high dividend, great management team, etc.

Don't forget the big picture:

Peak oil has been hit. Getting additional oil is like squeezing additional toothpaste out of the tube. It takes more effort, and you get less and less.

What does this mean for refiners? It means they are in the wrong business. THUMBS DOWN HARD!!!

This stock is trading lower than I ever imagined it could.
In spite of the investor's doom and gloom, this company provides a needed product that the world can't do without. "Time, is on our side."
