This company did several business missteps such as disastrous merging with Veritas, recent unnecessary overpaying Vontu aquisition in the last five years. The merge with Veritas diluted symantec's stock value. The Vontu aquisition does not add value to symantec's business in a sensible way.

May be due for a short-term reversal, but long-term the P/E of 27.86 is inflated compared to the rest of the beaten down tech sector. This has further to fall in any sort of stagnation. It's inevitable that Symantec will pay too much for more products and then destroy them, as they've done repeatedly in the past. Sure, they're a good short term trade given their beta, but I hear more and more people in the IT world every day giving up on the headaches associated with their products. Both are up on good earnings in the last few trading days, but this is where comparative value and fundamentals coincide, giving me a clear choice between the two. Among programmers and users, though, Symantec's 360 suite has to overcome its bloatware image (which is a reality all the same). There's my balanced pitch.
