Vonage Holdings Corp. (VG)

CAPS Rating:
*

The Company is a provider of broadband Voice over Internet Protocol services to residential and small and home office customers.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other players to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

I live in the Philippines and use Vonage for my business phone lines and it is fantastic. My customer can call a local Califonia number, so they do not even know I moved my business. I started my business in 1994 and moved to the Phillipines in 2006, with this service it was a easy move and no los...More

As a former Vonage customer, I have to admit that their product is awesome. The features you get for the price make landline phones look ridiculously expensive.

Their financial condition though is anything but awesome.

With a negative book value, negative return on assets, and a negative profit...More

VOIP is great for international but for domestic it is dead becasue most cell phones have free long distance. Why go for the VOIP?

I live in China and use Skype and only go computer to computer which is free. not sure how this will work long term?

I wonder what their churn is?

What rate are they adding new customers?

I did a very very quick look at the financials and it seems to me they are not strong. To much debt for me for this size company. High SGA expenses.

how will they compete with $10 per month t-mobile's @ home service?

They are already losing lots of money with their $15 or $25 per month packages. I don't expect them to survice with $10 per month.

Sure Vonage sells at a huge gross margin, but they dont have enough units they sell to turn to a net profit. This one is not totally lost cause stock or company. If somehow they can double or tripple sales, without increasing SG&A and interst charges, they can be profitable. I will close our if their profitability or top line improves. I doubt that will happen with this new $10 per month competitior.

Also, Yahoo Voice allows you to get your number for only $2.99. If they can manage to produce a decent wi-fi instrument, Vonage is bamboozle.

Vonage the Dog just can't seem to convince Americans what a great thing Voip is and how cheap long distance can be using the net. Maybe they don't realize most people use cellphones for long distance and don't pay LD charges anyway.
