Westwood One, Inc. (WON)

CAPS Rating:
**

The Company supplies radio and television stations with information services and programming and is a domestic outsource provider of traffic reporting services and produces and distributes national news, sports, talk, music and special event programs.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

I got out of this one too soon before but I think it is still going to have a big move up from here. It has been too heavily shorted. This article appeared on trading markets.com on 9/24/07;

This is a very speculative play - betting that WON can still remain solvent in an industry (radio broadcasting) which is unlikely to see its golden days again, if not to completely vanish into oblivion in the next few years.

For those who like to buy lottery, buy WON at the current price of 1.5-1.6 and treat it like a long term lottery ticket in your hands may have a higher chance of winning. Just be warned that you will either lose all the money when WON goes belly up or you get handsomely rewarded if you buy and hold. So please make sure that your bet size is small enough that you won't lose sleep over it.

For traders, we are looking at the charts instead - Technically, WON's decline over the last few years has been relentless, but since Jan 08, a base has formed nicely, and the 1.4-1.6 range is a support level that is near the botton of the base. The massive selling in the past few years appears to have exhausted (nothing much left to interest short seller at this price), and the bullish candles over these few months appear to have much higher volume than the bearish ones, indicating that some bottom-fishing investors have been accumulating shares slowly. Taken all these clues together, chances are good that it may have a short term rebounce above 2, which is our target.

WON is a loss.
