Ford Motor Company (F)

CAPS Rating:
*

A producer of cars and trucks combined. The Company's business is divided into two segments: Automotive and Financial Services.

Rating a stock in CAPS consists of three components:

Your call - Will this stock outperform or underperform the S&P 500? Successful picks are measured in terms of whether or not you were correct and by how many percentage points.

Your time frame - A guideline for other members to see whether your thinking is short or long-term. Time frame is also used to calculate the stock rating, but is not used in the scoring of your pick.

Your pitch - Here's your chance to offer more detailed thoughts, analysis, concerns, or the rationale behind your call. The pitch is optional and may be added later.

Each time you rate a stock, CAPS updates the community intelligence for the company, which may or may not change its CAPS rating. For more information, visit the Help tab at the top of the page.

Ford has made all its cutbacks, redisigned the cars, made them safer, the quality of the car is back better then ever, with Mullally at the helm he has made a great turnaround happen sooner then later.

I sit back and laugh at some of these comments. Filing for bankruptcy may or may not happen. WHO CARES. Share Holders getting wiped out WHO CARES! If any of the automakers file for bankruptcy the Gov will then step in and bail them out. TAXPAYERS PAY the bill. If the Gov steps in before they file TAXPAYERS pay the bill WHO CARES! Here’s the real issue to look at. How many millions of people will be without a job from this? How many millions of people will be on unemployment? Wake up there is no way the government will allow any of the auto makers to fail that you can take to the bank. What would cost more, Loaning them 25 billion or paying unemployment for roughly a million people on an avg of 1600 a month. That what the government will end up paying if they let them go under. The bailout will be A LOT cheaper long run weather its paid back or not. You see unemployment never gets paid back unless you’re a TAXPAYER!

This is an experimental portfolio consisting of small-cap or larger picks that have recently entered the $1.50-3.00 range (favoring the low end), with the theory being that most stocks entering this range are not going to stay there unless they've been there for a while already.

-------------

Of the Big Three in Detroit, I honestly think that Ford is the most stable at this point. Contrary to popular belief, all thre automakers are probably not going to vanish into oblivion. The worst that happens with Ford is that they go into Chapter 11 and the stock becomes temporarily worthless before being re-issued. If that happens, I've learned my lesson. ;)

My pick for bankruptcy. As long as the company makes huge, fuel inefficient vehicles that break down all too easily and refuses to innovate or create a product that people are willing to (repeatedly) buy, it should fall victim to economic Darwinism and go extinct. Even if it does get government bailout $$, prospects for the common stockholders are grim (see FNM, AIG, and FRE)

Downward Trend. Dare I let it run lower? Is it more likely to rise or continue to fall? I think i'll let it fall another 10-20%
