Nokia is the best of all the the handset manufacturers, but the threat from the computer intdustry, anticipated for years, is finally here. Now, Microsoft is real for mobile software, and TI, Intel, and Qualcomm are all starting to compete head-on. The combination will lower the barrier to entry f...More

Very strong global brand. Market turmoil has punished the price much more than fundamentals warrant.

There is no question that the looming recession will hurt profitability. Competition is also another major concern, whether it be from low cost competitors in Asia or innovative products from high end cell makers like Apple and RIMM.

I like NOK because it is the leading manufacturer of cell phones with close to 40 % of the market. It has some of the highest profit margins per phone of any cell manufacturer. www.wikinvest.com/stock/Nokia_(NOK) It also is averaging 3.8 billion in free cash flow a year, which is an 8% yield currently, with over 7 billion of cash in the bank. Everyone I read consider management to be top notch, so I see the current price of $12.50 worth the risk and have 25% of my real portfolio invested in NOK.

King Nokia is an easy pick in this down market. If profits are affected by the down turn, the low p/e gives some room to still make this price attractive. Over the next couple years, the fact that they are truly global will make Nokia a good buy as the markets recover. If they can keep paying their dividend, at 5%+, that makes this even more attractive.
