Vale, as the company is known, is the world's LARGEST producer of iron ores but is also engaged in a variety of activities through its various subsidiaries...these are the types of metals/minings companies you want to own: they are highly diversified through their wholly/partly owned subsidiaries and receive the majority of their profits from emerging/developing markets. Seriously this company does almost too many things haha: copper, coal, potash (which we all know about bc of POT), aluminum, and other precious metals not to mention they operate various logisitics systems in their home country of Brazil such as railroad terminals and a port which are all integrated into their mining/minerals business.

Honestly guys (and gals) this company provides the raw materials needed to get people the products and provide the services that they really need: cars, highways, appliances, electronics, and construciton materials etc...Companies like this are extremely well positioned to ride the waves of high GDP growth in emerging markets and hence the demand for RAW MATERIALS

VALE trades at just 16 times earnings and its forward P/E ratio is around 11...thats awesome! whats even better is that earnings growth estimates for this quarter are around 8% and for the next quarter of '08 they are 60%...let me say that again, earnings growth estimates for next quarter '08 are 60%!!!!! and for the next 5 yrs. avg annual growth estimates are around 35%...these are all tell-tale signs that this company will be extremely valuable in the long term

but im trying to make money (for myself and you guys) in the short term...so ill tell you why i recently increased my position in the company after a series of great gains...it hit a peak of around 44 in mid-may and has since dropped a little....viewing gap-support trends for the stock and based on its 20 wk moving avgs and some of my own stock predicting savy, i believe this stock is poised to break through its 52 wk high of around 44 and push through to near 50 and i want you guys to be there with me for that jump...

They even have some great news that just came out about a week ago...they are building a $1 billion dollar pellet plant in Oman as the Middle Eastern steel industry continues to explode. I dont want it to seem like im going for the hard sell or w/e but this company honeslty gets me excited...think about it a Rio de Janero based company who is the largest producer of iron ore in the world (serious market share in S. America) just finalized a project to produce in the Middle East..the only way this company could get any better would be if you told me it was providing China all of the steel they needed for reconstruction in Sichuan province...

Although the US economy is stuck in the mud right now, all around the world countries are seeing the growth for the types of lives we in America live: big apartments in the city, cars, electronics, modern home furnishings and Vale will be there to provide the raw mats for all this...i cant wait to see where this stock goes

Long term I think that this is a young Oracle of Omaha pick. With that said, the technicals are not looking very good on this stock. For nearly the last nine months the RSI has not really kept pace with the up trend which started to break down in early June 08.

Invested some of windfall profits from metals boom in offshore oil production blocks off Brazillian coast. Current P;E under 5 adn forward P/E around 3. excellent flows and reserves to weather current slowdown. Generated 5 bil in cash for 3rd QUARTER (not year). Beat estimates, had highest divident declared and paid and then still got hammered when institutional holders had to sell to cover redemptions.
