I loved this stock after it's initial beatdown from the vytorin fallout and I still love it. I'm a physican that doesn't Rx antihypercholestemia meds but I will tell you that, in general, barring a safety issue or OVERWHELMING evidence of a drug's failure most MDs won't change their practice. They are creatures of habit. I think you'll see that over a intermediate time frame the number of scripts written for Vytorin will have less of a dropoff than expected- and as put before, much of this is factored into the stock price. What really intrigues me over the next 3-6 months will be the news on sugammadex. This could be a big drug for them. It's a late stage neuromuscular blockade reversal agent. Generally when you are "put to sleep" for a surgery you are paralyzed- we can't have you writhing around on the table. Two common paralytic agents are Vecuronium and Rocuronium. Nice drugs, but can pose a problem as they take time to wear off, even with currently available reversing agents- occasionally causing a hairy situation. Sugammadex was designed to immediately, close to at least, reverse these agents. It's currently stage III and was approved yesterday for use in the UK ( http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idINN2933430720080729?rpc=44 ). If appoved by the FDA it could add 1 billion $ annually in revenue. Now Vecuronium and Roc aren't used in every case, but as long as they are carried hospitals ect will need to buy this drug and have it on the cart- think of it as an antidote.
