Great buying oppotunity back at around $35. Sure it is spending a lot of money on its fiber optic infrastructure now, but in years to come that will be the advantage over other telcos and cable who simply will not have the neccessary bandwidth needed in the future. Wireless business is also tops. ...More

Hate is a strong word, and I hate VZ for being the sneaky people they are. Have a plan, and was told I could change it at any time. So I took more minutes than I needed to be on the safe side. Verizon is the network of choice by many individuals because of its great network coverage. This is evidenced by the transfer of Nextel/Sprint customers to the Verizon camp.

In addition to its attractive cell phone coverage and dataplans, Verizon is one of the largest holders of the fiber optic network within the US. Obama has stated that he will make "internet more accessible to everyone." The cheapest, simplest, and the most effective way to do that is to lay down more fiber optic backbones, and Verizon will be very happy to do so as the government hands out aids and contracts to make a better internet a possibility.

And that starts the cycle; with more backbones and more accessible service, VZ not only gets government backing but more customers in the new internet users that the government has found.

Strong, cash heavy stock paying a good divdend that should hold up well in this downturn.
