"...shareholder equity, equal to $1.57 a share" - The price is $.87!

These numbers are in Canadian Dollars: 1 CAD = 1.04663 USD on April 19th 2011

Because of this vast discount in share price, Aberdeen's currently buying back their own shares (increasing the equity of the remaining shares) as well as offering a dividend to spark some kind of attention from investors. I'm fine with waiting even longer, but I think others will take notice within the year.

I have been waiting for this company to become rateable for quite some time now. Alas.

Abderdeen International:
* is focused on private, micro- and small-cap resource companies;
* provides a unique, value-added approach to investing through its association with Forbes & Manhattan to actively build companies to unlock value;
* has a broad investment mandate in the resource sector with significant exposure to gold in the current portfolio;
* has a management team with a depth of experience in the resource sector.

Breakdown (Canadian numbers):
Mrk Cap. = $79m
Share Price = .90
Reported Investment Portfolio (Jan 31st) = $1.43/share

This company has grown its Investment Portfolio from $.78/share to $1.43/share in the 12 months ended Jan/31st, roughly an 83% gain.

Wait, it gets better..... Aberdeen also receives gold royalties which provides them with a consistent cash flow, which has allowed them to implement a dividend policy starting this fiscal year of 2 cents, or about 2.2% at the current share price.

Here is Aberdeen's portfolio, courtesy of me, based on their holdings reported at 3Q, Oct. 31st, with updated stock prices:
https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0BzfJ71pQg0PnNjViMTU1NDctMjcwZS00MDJmLWI4ZjgtY2MxYTY3YjMwZDRj&hl=en&authkey=COnP8Y8O

As you can see, I estimate their NAV is around $1.51 on a non-dilutive basis. Their current share price represents only 60% of their NAV. Sounds good, right? It gets better again...

Not included in this NAV calculation:
- Performance shares that Management have expressed confidence will be turned into common shares in the future. Right now these shares have a $0 value attributed to them due to GAAP.
- If you take a look at their financial statements, you will notice that their gold royalties are based on a $700/oz gold price. If this was reflected at the ~$1400 price, that would be an extra $34m added onto the balance sheet, or 40 cents onto the NAV.
- I have kept the same value for all of their Private Investments and "11 other investments", even though it is probably safe to assume that these have also risen in value since Oct 31st.
- They also have boat loads of warrants from most of the companies in their portfolio. I'm not sure the terms of the warrants, but with the way their holdings have been performing it appears that these warrants will be worth quite a bit of money in the future.

It is very difficult to calculate the true NAV of this company, but with all of the factors I mentioned above it is safe to say that it is MUCH more than what Aberdeen is allowed to report because of GAAP and other factors. Nonetheless, I estimate at today's prices, their NAV could be anywhere from $1.75 to $1.90, which is basically 100% premium to their current share price.

The disconnect to their NAV is just one of the reasons why I find this company attractive, some others are:
The recent dividend announcement.
The current share buy-back program.
Management's proven success of hitting homeruns; they've had multiple 10 baggers with SUE.TO and AVR.TO being the most recent.

This company continues to enhance shareholder value and if you believe in a commodity bull market, this company is in prime position to take advantage of it.
