A buyout deal was on the table for Axalta that would have given the company about 30% upside. Management wanted more.
Axalta is the leader in industrial/car finishes. Not something I am super knowledgeable about but they do what they do very well. Berkshire owns a large stake. It is a very Warren Buffet type "do one thing do it well" type company. Financials are messy as they were spun out from DuPont.
I knew what Axalta was from being a Jeff Gordon fan when his #24 Chevy changed from having Dupont on the hood to Axalta on the hood.
This could be a decent value play. I like having Berkshire in the corner as well as managements high expectations.

Just learned about this company today. Berkshire Hathaway bought a stake in the company last year and owns about 10% of the company today. Axalta produces strong free cash flow, which enables the company to pay down its hefty debt load which is the result of a leveraged buyout. Axalta has hefty market share as the world's largest producer of automotive refinish coatings.
Seems like a company that can maintain its market dominance and grow sales and margins in the coming years, and use FCF to pay down debt along the way. Might as well throw it in CAPS with the stock tumbling a bit in recent days/weeks... outperform.
