basically, clover has a huge TAM and a differentiable product and business model that has a durable sustainable advantage to their larger competition. The clover assistant is a software that presents useful information to the doctor about a patient and it's a bigger deal that one thinks when it comes to detecting diseases and making sure screening is regular.
it's really an interesting approach where an insurer is taking a proactive approach in preventive precision medicine.
Biggest difference from last year and this year is that they have 20+ patents now to solidify their technological moat. the patents give clover an opportunity to pave way to a new wave of adoption for info tech organizing capabilities by physicians.
lives that are managed by their software are +20% in gross margin over their counterparts who dont use the software. this is promising since the industry is known for relatively low margins between 10-15% with debt burden.

Speculative Pick (2% max allocation would be wise), Health Care Sector: Many companies who went public via SPACs have been gutted as those who rushed in, now rush out just as quickly, but many fail to realize that SPACs raised debt-free cash for these companies to accelerate their expansion into positive cash flows or outright profit margin; Clover is one such company; With a total debt to capital ratio of 4.61%, reported last Sept, she's operating at 1/10th the average debt ratio in her industry; Pretty smart move ahead of climbing interest rates if you ask me; CLOV also grew revenue 89% in the 3rd quarter as she expands her AI-enabled Medicare Advantage services into new states steadily stealing market share from the broader industry; Palihapatiya’s pick uses AI to bring providers and patients together; Providers actually recommend plans to patients so that they can get the care they need; Brilliant! It’s also recession proof; I’m likely to pass on a new EV when things get tight, but I’m pretty sure I’ll spring for coverage to get the health care I need to stay alive
