- deleveraging from their heydude acquisition debt spree, close to where management wanted to be before beginning buybacks
- trades at something like 11% earnings yield, and has a 1B buyback authorized which should kick in at some point in the next quarter or two
Premortem: If this fails, there's really two reasons it could happen:
- turns out the brand is not immune from being a fad. fashion tends to go in cycles, and crocs were popular once before, before being pushed out of fashion. hardest thing to predict, and likely why it trades at such a discount. brands like Nike and Lulu are exceptions, not the rule.
- recession hits and their business goes down, becoming attractive for an acquirer.
