Recs
CSR is an Australian conglomerate with operations in Australia, China, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand. Products include sugarcane ethanol, refined sugar, aluminum, and building products (insulation, plasterboard, fiber cement, bricks, roof tiles, precast concrete, glass, etc.) It is listed in Australia as CSR.AX as well as occasionally trading on the pink sheets.
CSR was beat down severely 2007-2008 and has not rebounded as strongly as the rest of the market since then. It is still down about 56% from the 2006 high. However revenues have increased and the balance sheet has improved in the past year. They are trading at about 2.1x tangible book. Current ratio is 1.5 and debt to equity is .9, both manageable. Earnings took a big hit in 2009 with $422M in unusual expense / writedowns. However backing this out they are trading at only 9.7x operating earnings. The current dividend yield is 2.3%.
Looking forward, demand for building products should continue to be strong in Asia, Australia and the Pacific. CSR is a relatively safe large cap with a valuation that compares favorably to similar companies.
